“As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.”

- Nelson Mandela

Advocacy

Our work is designed not only to save and transform the lives of the children we support, but to effectively combat the root causes that affect their lives.

Back in 2010, when we were called Stepping Stones Nigeria, we produced the film The Fake Prophet with Nigerian film director, Teco Benson. The film exposes what happens when children are stigmatized as witches, while also exposing the truth behind those who make money by claiming to be prophets, able to seek out and exorcise child witches.

You can view the film on YouTube by clicking the link on the right.

Safe Child Africa, led by our founder, Gary Foxcroft, has worked tirelessly to ensure that the issues Gary first became aware of during his research visit to Nigeria in 2003, are widely understood. From leading local demonstrations and grassroots activities along with our local partners, to documenting and presenting various reports on the issues to the United Nations in Geneva and New York, such as:

Safe Child Africa also produced two award-winning documentaries - Saving Africa's Witch Children and Return to Africa's Witch Children - placing the issues squarely on the doorsteps of the international community in 2008-9. Warning - the footage in these documentaries may be disturbing.

Critical successes have included lobbying the Akwa Ibom and Cross River State Governments to enact the Child Rights Act , including groundbreaking legislation criminalising the branding of children as "witches".

The appalling truth is that despite all our best efforts, our advocacy and support are still very much needed today.

Our Advocacy Projects Today

  • PACT -Prevent Abuse of Children Today

Overwhelmed by the scale of child witchcraft accusations and wider abuse of child rights in Nigeria, we established the PACT campaign in 2006 to try to address the root causes of the problems.

  • Advocacy For Alleged Witches

Advocacy For Alleged Witches works with accusations against people of all ages and across Africa. Our work overlaps when children’s rights are abused because of witchcraft beliefs and accusations.
